Help people to use our tools

We believe our tools like ERPNext can help organizations reduce waste and complexity. Frappe + ERPNext has the potential to be a “full stack” replacement for not only ERP (SAP/Oracle) but also the entire enterprise stack (Java/.NET). With this scope, we should help organizations by providing products and services to help them manage their technology platforms.

Why ERPNext over SAP B1 / Oracle

100% FOSS

Customizable

Future-ready

Challenges

Both project planning and production planning at Bullows were run on Excel sheets. It worked while the company was smaller, but became hard to manage as it grew.

  • Unclear project priorities: several projects ran in parallel with no clear view of which tasks were critical and which could slip, so deadlines were missed and project profitability and status were unclear.
  • Resource crunch: there was no way to see how limited people and equipment would affect delivery dates across projects.
  • Standard MRP did not fit: ERPNext's out-of-the-box MRP does not consider buffers, so it was not used; demand, buffer stock and lead times were worked out in spreadsheets.
  • No material visibility: the team could not easily see shortages, what had to be made in advance, or where buffer stock was held, which led to last-minute purchases and delayed orders.
  • Reporting: reports were compiled manually and were often out of date by the time they were ready.

Benefits

Two planning engines were built on ERPNext, together with Theory of Constraints (TOC) consultants Yagna.

  • Project planning engine: uses critical path to set start and end dates from task dependencies, and critical chain to add resource constraints. Buffers are held at project level instead of padding every task.
  • Gantt and fever charts: Gantt charts show the critical and feeding paths, and fever charts show buffer consumption along the critical chain, so management can see which projects are at risk.
  • TOC-based MRP: demand is driven by actual orders. Buffer and minimum stock are set per item, and buffer items are made in advance and drawn when needed.
  • Automatic replenishment: Top of Green, Yellow and Red levels per item trigger Material Requests automatically.
  • Priority-based material planning: the BOM is exploded and a Required By date is set on each Material Request from lead times. For items without buffers, the MRP run can be triggered from Sales Orders in order of priority.
  • 20+ custom reports: including MTO shortage, Sales Order and Work Order full-kit status, colour-coded material status (red, black, white, yellow, green) and buffer-wise logs.

Impact

Successful on-time ERPNext go-live

Increased sales order to cash

Increased inventory turnover

  • Excel sheets for project and material planning have been retired.
  • Delivery dates are based on real task dependencies and resource availability.
  • Management sees which projects and orders are at risk and can act early.
  • Purchase and production teams work from the same priorities, with far fewer follow-ups.
  • Buffer-based reordering reduces emergency purchases without piling up excess stock.
The system provides complete visibility into what to buy, what to produce, and what to prioritize all in real time. Our Purchase and Production teams now work in sync, with far fewer follow-ups and much greater clarity.
